| Iran look
set to be without three key players due to club
commitments for their West Asian Games campaign. Following their failure to qualify for the 2002 World Cup, Iran are keen to field a strong side for the West Asian tournament in Kuwait City later this month. However, Rahman Rezaei and Vahid Hashemian have already expressed doubt as to whether they will be allowed to join up with the squad by Perugia and Bochum respectively. "We are struggling to find our rhythm at the bottom of Serie A, notably after the latest league defeat," said Rezaei. "Accordingly, the club won't release me unless we put out some positive results." Hashemian added: "It is rather impossible to make the trip to Kuwait. We still have six games in front of us and we are in desperate need to clinch four victories. "The club officials made it clear they want all international players within their framework till the climax of the current season." Meanwhile, centre-forward Farhad Majidi, who plays for Al-Wasl in the United Arab Emirates, is also unlikely to participate. He said: "The West Asian Games are surely beyond my plans and those of my club who are still in contention for the league title now that the league campaign is reaching a decisive stage."
