AFC Commiserates With Iranian Nation

Mehr News – The Asian Football Confederation Thursday expressed its condolences to the Iranian people for the great loss of lives caused by the Friday’s killer earthquake in Bam, southeast of Kerman Province.
In his message, the AFC Secretary General Peter Velappan sympathized with the bereaved family.
A strong quake, 6.3 degrees on the Richter scale, rocked Bam before dawn (0158 GMT) Friday, flattening about 70 percent of the mostly mud-brick buildings in the ancient Silk Road city, around 1,000km (600 miles) southeast of the capital, Tehran.
Some 40,000 have been so far buried and cemeteries have overflowed with corpses.
