Al-Shabab have booted out Iranian pair Ali Daei and Mehrdad Minavand, the
first is being replaced by Brazilian forward Gadilson Da Silva.
The veteran striker was instrumental in netting 11 goals out of 22 league
matches in his first appearance in domestic competitions here, yet it
finally appeared that his 3-month absence through injury was behind the
club’s ultimate decision to get rid of him.
“Daei will not be retained for the next season alongside Minavand,”
stated Al-Shabab chief supervisor Khaled Bin-Fares on Thursday.
“We have suffered to maintain our status in the top flight last term,
and we are not ready to reiterate the same scenario next season,” he
added.
Da Silva, 23, signed a one-year contract with the transfer tag remaining
undisclosed, joining the Dubai outfits from Atletico Baranense of Brazil.
German manager Rainer Hollmann was dispatch to the rescue of Al-Shabab in
the closing stages of the league championship last season, helping them to
end the campaign at the 9th spot on the table standings, five points ahead
of relegated Dubai FC.
