Iran Adidas

Tehran Times - Iran national football team players will not wear Adidas after the German sportswear manufacturer has decided to deny Iran with access to its services.

Adidas has decided to follow in Nike’s footsteps.

Nike, who was set to sponsor Team Melli with cleats and footwear throughout the 2018 World Cup, announced that it had withdrawn its support of the team because of global economic sanctions against the country.

In a statement, Nike said, "U.S. sanctions mean that, as a U.S. company, Nike cannot supply shoes to players in the Iranian national team at this time."

The decision from Nike comes in the wake of the Trump administration's move to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

Now, the German sportswear manufacturer has denied Iran with access to its services shortly after the 2018 World Cup, where they provided the team's jerseys.

The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) president Mehdi Taj has accused Adidas of disrespecting the Iranian people and demanded a formal apology from the manufacturer.

Iran national football team, who have been drawn with Iraq, Yemen and Vietnam in Group D of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, will not wear Adidas sportswear in the competition in the UAE.
