Alireza Jahanbakhsh - Brighton

Dailymail - Brighton have completed a club record £20million deal to sign Iran's World Cup star Alireza Jahanbakhsh from AZ Alkmaar.

The club announced the news on their Twitter page, confirming that the 24-year-old has joined on a five-year-deal.

Chris Hughton spoke about Jahanbakhsh becoming their most expensive signing in history after he underwent a medical with the Seagulls

Jahanbakhsh's new boss told the club's website: 'We are delighted to welcome Alireza to the club, and we are particularly pleased to get this deal over the line.

'Ali is a player that we have been aware of and monitored for a few years, and his versatility will increase our attacking options within the squad.

'He can play in a wide position or central midfield attacking role, and I am now very much looking forward to working with him.'

The 24-year-old scored 21 goals in the Dutch league last season and had also attracted interest from Leicester City.

Jahanbakhsh featured in all three of Iran's matches at the World Cup in Russia, against Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

Despite his success in the Eredivisie, he failed to score as Iran came third in Group B and were eliminated.

He was deadlier in Holland, firing Alkmaar into third place and qualification for the Europa League this season.
