PLDC - Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) has confirmed that Iran’s friendly against Syria has been called off.
On Saturday, the federation announced that Iran will play Syria in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on May 11 as part of preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The match has been canceled because several Team Melli’s players will have to accompany their clubs in the AFC Champions League.
Iran has been drawn in Group B with Spain, Morocco and Portugal.
Team Melli will kick off the tournament with a match against Morocco at Saint Petersburg on June 15.
Iran will face Spain in Kazan on 20 June before meeting Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Saransk five days later.
