Tasnim - Iran's Junior football team will play Iraq in Karbala in the near future.
Head of Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) Mehdi Taj said for them is a great honor to play the Iraqi teams in the country.
“Karbala and Najaf stadiums are the best stadiums in Asia and it’s a great honor for us to play the Iraqi teams in their stadiums,” Taj said in an interview with Alforat TV Channel.
Taj also welcomed a decision from soccer’s world governing body FIFA to lift a ban on hosting competitive international soccer matches at stadiums in three Iraqi cities.
FIFA lifted its three-decade ban on Iraq hosting international football.
Arbil, Basra and Karbala had been allowed to organize friendlies in the past year provided the security situation was "stable".
