Football-Oranje - AZ Alkmaar have closed the gap on second-placed Ajax to two points after a comfortable 3-0 victory over ADO Den Haag in the Hague.
During the international break, Wout Weghorst made his debut for the Dutch national team and after only 18 minutes the forward opened the scoring from Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s cross.
Oussama Idrissi and Guus Til then went close to a quick second goal, while at the other end, Marco Bizot had to make a save to deny Bjorn Johnson. On 31 minutes, Idrissi latched onto a Weghorst pass before sending a deflected effort past Robert Zwinkels to make it 2-0. Jahanbakhsh then made it 3-0 before the break, finishing well from Teun Koopmeiners corner.
The second half was far from exciting with the game already wrapped up by AZ. Zwinkels saved well from Weghorst, while at the other end, Lex Immers failed to net from close range.
The victory means AZ move to within two points of Ajax, who face Groningen on Sunday. ADO Den Haag are 8th.
