It came after Team Melli earned two valuable victories over Qatar and China in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Iran topped all Asian Football Confederation (AFC) members, followed by South Korea (N0. 43), Japan (No. 44), Australia (No. 50) and Saudi Arabia (No. 52).
Five-time world champion Brazil has returned to what it will consider its rightful place at the top of the FIFA rankings for the first time in seven years.
