Tasnim - Iranian international referee Alireza Faghani has been appointed to officiate Tehran derby between Persepolis and Esteghlal.

Ashkan Khorshidi and Bijan Heydari had been also nominated to officiate the derby but the referees have never whistled the important match so far.

Faghani will be assisted by Mohammadreza Mansouri and Saeid Alinejadian in this match.

Alireza Faghani made history by becoming the first Asian referee to officiate the final of a Men's Olympic.

The 84th derby will be held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on February 12.

Esteghlal leads the head to head results in competitive matches with 24 wins to Persepolis's 20, while 39 matches ended in a draw.

Tehran derby is a football match between the two prominent Tehran clubs Esteghlal (Blues) and Persepolis (Reds).
