Tehrantimes - Iranian international midfielder Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who is experiencing his second year at AZ Alkmaar, believes this season’s Erdevisie could be his best as he’s going to be the player to watch.
“We’re at the beginning of the season and we have not reached our best forms. Last year was Vincent Janssen’s season as he scored 27 goals in 34 appearances for AZ but this season is going to be mine. I will make every effort to improve during the season and play my best football for AZ,” Jahanbakhsh told AZFanpage website.
Jahanbakhsh played 63 minutes in the AZ Alkmaar 1-0 win over Greek side PAS Giannina at the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round match on Thursday. He believes the team could have played better but the result is the most important thing.
“Obviously a win is the most important thing, however we could have played better and if we were more accurate in front of the goal we could have won the game with a better result,” the 22-year old said.
“We had a very good pre-season preparation. As you can see the first official match is always difficult. I didn’t play my best game but I will be better game by game. We have a long season in front of us and this was just the beginning. Hopefully, next week is a little better,” he added.
Jahanbakhsh, who joined AZ last summer, scored four goals and provided eight assists in all competitions in his first season at the club.
