Tasnim - With two weeks to go, Esteghlal of Tehran returned to the top of the Iran Professional League (IPL) with a win over Saipa.
On Thursday, Esteghlal beat Saipa 2-1 in Tehran’s Takhti Stadium.
Omid Ebrahimi was on target for Esteghlal in the 52nd minute from the penalty spot but Ali Gholizadeh equalized the match 12 minutes later.
With nine minutes remaining, substitute Pero Pejic scored a winner for the Blues.
Elsewhere at the Azadi Stadium, Persepolis suffered shock 2-0 defeat against Naft Tehran. Vahid Amiri and Mojtaba Haghdoust scored for the visiting team in the 83rd and 90th minutes respectively.
Another title contender Esteghlal Khuzestan defeated struggling Rah Ahan 3-1 at the Ghadir Stadium in Ahvaz.
Farshad Janfaza opened the scoring for Esteghlal Khuzestan in the 20th minute but Majid Hosseini leveled the match three minutes later.Esteghlal Khuzestan striker Rahim Mehdi Zohaivi scored twice in the 29th and 67th minutes.
Furthermore, Saba defeated Siah Jamegan 1-0, Tractor Sazi beat Malavan 4-2, Sepahan defeated Gostaresh Foolad 2-1 and Padideh lost to Zob Ahan 1-0.
Esteghlal returned to top of the table after two weeks on goal difference, followed by Esteghlal Khuzestan and Persepolis.
