Late Persepolis and Esteghlal players to be commemorated

TEHRANTIMES - Late Persepolis and Esteghlal football teams’ players will be commemorated during the 82nd Tehran derby on Friday.


The Iran Football League Organization is going to hold a special ceremony for those who died during the last year.

Persepolis captain Hadi Norouzi passed away in October 2015 after suffering a heart attack in his sleep at the age of 30.

Former Iran and Esteghlal midfielder Reza Ahadi died following internal infection and liver problem at the age of 53 in January.

Former Persepolis striker, Homayoun Behzadi, also passed away for a long time lung disease also in January.

Esteghlal and Persepolis have been scheduled to play In Tehran's Azadi Stadium on Friday.

Two Iranian popular teams have played against each other 81 times, with Esteghlal winning 24 games, Persepolis taking 20 victories, and 37 matches ending in a draw.
