MUSCAT - Qatar and Iran set up a showdown
in the final of the Asian Football Confederation’s Under-14 football
festival at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher yesterday.
With Oman out of the festival having lost two league encounters, local
interest in the football festival dwindled down, but the young boys from
Qatar and Iran compensated with some good performances yesterday.
In the first semifinal of the day, Qatar played well to defeat United Arab
Emirates 2-0. However, the match was keenly contested with the team from
Emirates fighting till the fag end.
In the other semifinal, Iran proved dominant in their 3-0 win over Jordan,
who showed some of their fighting qualities in the second half.
Today being a rest day, UAE and Jordan will clash for the bronze tomorrow at
4.45pm, while the final will between Qatar and Iran will kick-off at 7pm.
