Tasnim - The FIFA presidential candidate Gianni Infantino said that he has come to Iran to talk about football.
Current UEFA general secretary arrived in Tehran in the early hours of Wednesday.
The FIFA presidential candidate will meet head of Iran Football Federation, Ali Kaffashian, during his one-day trip.
He will reportedly meet Iran coach Carlos Queiroz on Wednesday.
“I am in Iran first of all to visit my old friends. I am in Iran since football is very popular in the country. Iran is the best football team in Asia,” he said.
“I am a football person and a candidate in FIFA presidency. It’s normal to go to leading country like Iran to discuss about football and development in football. I am here to discuss about how we can bring football back to FIFA and FIFA back to football,” Infantino told reports at Imam Khomeini International Airport.
Infantino is one of five candidates for the FIFA presidency, facing competition from Asian Football Confederation president Sheikh Salman of Bahrain, former FIFA vice president Prince Ali of Jordan, former FIFA official Jerome Champagne of France, and South African businessman Tokyo Sexwale.
FIFA presidential election will take place in Zurich on February 26.
