Hamid Reza Asefi

TEHRANTIMES - With Saudi Arabia severing ties with Iran, the Saudi football clubs have announced that they will not play Iranian teams in the country.

But former Iranian ambassador in the 1998 World Cup in France Hamid-Reza Assefi believes Saudi Arabia is not a safe country at all.

“The unsafe place is Saudi Arabia not only because of its weak performance during the Mena disaster, but also for the country’s inability to cope with tis people.”

“The Iranian football federation should prepare a couple of friendly games with big European teams to hold in Tehran to show how much safe Iran is. I’m sure a lot of big football teams are interested to play friendly in Iran,” Assefi added.
